English Lit
このlitはliterature(文学)の略です。

Hey

What are you up to?

be working on 何々
Are you working on it?

be not due until
That’s not due until next month.

get a head start
I know. I want to get a head start.

What page are you on?

 APPLY IT
You’re way ahead of the game.

U R the ☆
All: You’re way ahead of the game, too!

SAY IT!
All: You’re on top of it! Right on!

WRITE IT!

What page are you on?
Really? You’re way ahead of the game.

K:Jeff
J: In English, we say already. I’m already such and such.
K: OK.
C: In English, it’s War and Peace. It’s a famous novel written by Tolstoy.
J: We use the word “on.”
J: Uh-huh. I’m already on such and such. I’m already on the last chapter. I’m already on page 700. We use on.
onを使う。
C: Yeah, that’s right. You could say I think I’m way ahead of the game.

I’m already on the last chapter of War and Peace. I think I’m way ahead of the game.

IN ANOTHER SITUATION!
They talk formally.

Hello, Benjamin. What are you planning to do today?
Hello, Abby. I’m working on my book report for the Great Gatsby.
That’s not due until next month, is it?
I’m aware of that. I’d like to get a head start.
How far are you now, may I ask?
Actually, I finished it last night. I’m writing the report at the moment.
Is that so? Outstanding!

K: Yeah, that sounded very formal.
J&C: Yes indeed.
K: In stead of saying “I know,” what did that man say?
J: “I’m aware of that.”
I’m aware of that. I’m aware of it.
C: So, Ken.
K: Yes, Carolyn.
C: What month of the show are you now working on?
J: You’re writing the lessons, right?
K: Uh-huh, yeah, that’s right. I’m already on October.
J: Wow! You’re way ahead of the game! October!
K: I was just kidding. I wish. Well, that’s about it for today, so until next time.
J: Keep listening.
C: Keep practicing.
K: And keep on smiling.
All: Bye.
