H: McMillan says eating more slowly allows us to feel full on less food and makes food taste better. Wu adds that letting the body rest from digestion and disposal means it can use its energy for regeneration. Grace says she used to drive very quickly but now goes slowly and enjoys her surroundings. McMillan describes how the perception of the word slow has been changing.

eat moderately
H: She could also say eat in moderation. Eat enough. Not too much, not too little. One very common expression is moderation in all things. Or all things in moderation. Meaning we shouldn’t do too much or too little of anything. For example, “It’s okay to eat sweets once in a while but all things in moderation. If we eat too much, we’ll get sick.”
S: いまヘザーさんが説明のなかで、Moderation in all things.

take a break from

H: Stop doing something for a while. Rest from it. “He took a break from running after he injured his knee.”
“She took a break from freelance work for a while.”

digestion
消化
H: Wu is talking about our bodies breaking down food. The verb is digest, which can also mean absorb information, process information, think about it so that we understand and know how we feel.
Imagine a company meeting where a major restructuring is announced. “I know this information will take some time to digest. Please everyone, think about it and come to me with any questions you have.”

speed demon
H: Someone who like to drive really fast. “She was a real speed demon until she got into that accident.”

be stuck in rush hour traffic
H: If we’re stuck in something, we can’t get out of it. “I got stuck in a long line at the ward office.” And I actually got stuck in an elevator at college once. It went up and down, up and down, the doors wouldn’t open.
And you could also say just rush for rush hour. “Let’s leave now and avoid the evening rush.”

alter ego
H: Another side of something, a second self. This term often appears in comic books. Clark Kent was Superman’s alter ego.
He’s my alter ego.
H: I think there may be a little bit of a comic book meaning there. In the sense that you are inspiration to him. He aspires to your achievements, to your kind of achievements.
H: That was very nice of him.
